40 FACTS OF NOAH, THE ARK AND THE FLOOD

40 Facts of Noah, the Ark and the Flood.

Recently a blockbuster movie was released called “NOAH” starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins. It was an interesting movie to see but when compared with the real Biblical events of the story of Noah and the flood, in was very disappointing and very misleading.

When watching Russell Crowes Noah movie, I remembered another movie about Noah, a “made for TV mini series about Noah. It was a two-part mini series starring Jon Voight and Mary Steenburger. It came out in 1999.

Both movies claimed “creative license” when telling the story of the great prophet Noah and the epic flood. Frankly, the story is compelling enough not to need much creative license. The more I thought about these two movies the more frustrated I became. I thought to justify the existence of these two movies by saying at least it is getting people to talk about this great Old Testament story of faith and obedience. But I fear the talk will further perpetuate the vast errors of the great story or Noah.

40 Facts About Noah, The Ark And The Flood

Silver Noah’s Ark Charm

So what I have done, is gone through pretty much all of the major scripture passages in the Bible and created a fact list of Noah and all the known events surrounding the flood.

FACTS ABOUT NOAH, THE ARK AND FLOODS AND RELATED EVENTS

At the time Heavenly Father spoke to Noah about building an ark and saving the Animal Kingdom and his family from utter destruction the earth was evil and corrupt with abounding wickedness. At the same time the population of the earth was involved in their own lives like every other day in spite of Noah preaching to them. Let’s take a closer look.

Condition of the earth and the population therein:

1. “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.” (Genesis 6:11-12) There were only eight righteous people on the earth that qualified to be saved. Noah and his wife. Their three sons and their wives.

2. No was a preacher of righteousness. (2 Peter 2:5) Therein lies a safe assumption that Noah preached to the people and the people had a chance to believe the word of God.

3. “For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,” (Matthew 24:38, Luke 17:26-27)

4. God was longsuffering towards the people who live upon the earth. All the wicked had a chance for repentance while the Ark was being prepared. (1 Peter 3:20)

Come, Listen To A Prophets Voice; Christian Hymn

Come, Listen To A Prophets Voice
1. Come, listen to a prophet’s voice,
And hear the word of God,
And in the way of truth rejoice,
And sing for joy aloud.
We’ve found the way the prophets went
Who lived in days of yore.
Another prophet now is sent
This knowledge to restore.
2. The gloom of sullen darkness spread
Thru earth’s extended space
Is banished by our living Head,
And God has shown his face.
Thru erring schemes in days now past
The world has gone astray;
Yet Saints of God have found at last
The straight and narrow way.
3. ’Tis not in man they put their trust
Nor on his arm rely.
Full well assured, all are accursed
Who Jesus Christ deny.
The Savior to his people saith,“Let all my words obey,
And signs shall follow living faith,
Down to the latest day.”
4. Then heed the words of truth and light
That flow from fountains pure.
Yea, keep His law with all thy might
Till thine election’s sure,
Till thou shalt hear the holy voice
Assure eternal reign,
While joy and cheer attend thy choice,
As one who shall obtain.

An Angel from on High. Christian Hymn.

An angel from on high
The long, long silence broke;
Descending from the sky,
These gracious words he spoke:
Lo! in Cumorah’s lonely hill
A sacred record lies concealed.
Lo! in Cumorah’s lonely hill
A sacred record lies concealed.

Sealed by Moroni’s hand,
It has for ages lain
To wait the Lord’s command,
From dust to speak again.
It shall again to light come forth
To usher in Christ’s reign on earth.
It shall again to light come forth
To usher in Christ’s reign on earth.

It speaks of Joseph’s seed
And makes the remnant known
Of nations long since dead,
Who once had dwelt alone.
The fulness of the gospel, too,
Its pages will reveal to view.
The fulness of the gospel, too,
Its pages will reveal to view.

The time is now fulfilled,
The long-expected day;
Let earth obedience yield
And darkness flee away.
Remove the seals; be wide unfurled
Its light and glory to the world.
Remove the seals; be wide unfurled
Its light and glory to the world.

Lo! Israel filled with joy
Shall now be gathered home,
Their wealth and means employ
To build Jerusalem,
While Zion shall arise and shine
And fill the earth with truth divine.
While Zion shall arise and shine
And fill the earth with truth divine.

What Was Witnessed in the Heavens? Christian Hymn

What Was Witnessed in the Heavens?

What was witnessed in the heavens?
Why, an angel earthward bound.
Had he something with him bringing?
Yes, the gospel, joyful sound!
It was to be preached in power
On the earth, the angel said,
To all men, all tongues and nations
That upon its face are spread.

Had we not before the gospel?
Yes, it came of old to men.
Then what is this latter gospel?
‘Tis the first one come again.
This was preached by Paul and Peter
And by Jesus Christ, the Head.
This we latter Saints are preaching;
We their footsteps wish to tread.

Where so long has been the gospel?
Did it pass from earth away?
Yes, ’twas taken back to heaven
Till should dawn a brighter day.
What became of those departed,
Knowing not the gospel plan?
In the spirit world they’ll hear it;
God is just to ev’ry man.

Preparing For The Last Days and The Second Coming 2 Peter 3:13-18

2 Peter 3:13-18
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Commentary:
At the beginning of this passage of scripture is the reference to a new heaven and earth which refers to the millennium and the Second Coming of our Lord and Savior which creates the new heaven and earth for us to dwell on during the millennium.

We are told that while we wait for this grand and glorious occaasion that we  be diligent and be found living in peace, being clean or without spot and blameless which means we do no wrong or keep busy repenting every time we sin.

The chief Apostle Peter also refer to the difficulty in understanding some of the Epistles of Paul as “some things hard to be understood”.  This could from the stand point of good advice refer to other parts of the Bible. Peter goes on to refer to unlearned and unstable (spiritual or otherwise) people wrest the scriptures and they do this to their own destruction.

We don’t seek to justify ourselves by private interpretation of the scriptures but we learn the scriptures as to what they truly mean and adjust our life style to fit the scriptures. We need to study the Holy Bible to understand the scriptures as a whole. We need to understand the scriptures in full context so that important parts of the Christian doctrine are not taken out of context. A good example  is Grace and the Holy Trinity or Godhead.

There are several scriptures that on their own support salvation by grace alone but in full context of the Bible do not support that assertion. The same is true of the so-called Holy Trinity where the Godhead is one and the same person not individual and distinct personages. Out of context you can prove the holy trinity but in full context you can see full and numerous references that the Holy Godhead is truly three distinct glorified individuals.

We are told to grow in grace. Grace means divine power. So we are to grow in divine power only made possible by living a righteous life so that grace can be bestowed upon us by our Creator. We are to also grow “in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ”. How is that to be done? By studying the scriptures for ourselves. Not realying on once a week sermons at Church or Sunday School. We need to read the scriptures and then as James taught be “doers of the word, not hearer only.” That also will bring Gods divine grace down upon us and then when the Second coming arrives we will be prepared for the millennium.

Truth Eternal Christian Hymn John 8:32

TRUTH ETERNAL

Truth eternal, truth divine,
In thine ancient fulness shine!
Burst the fetters of the mind
From the millions of mankind!

Truth again restored to earth,
Opened with a prophet’s birth.
Priests of heaven’s royal line
Bear the keys of truth divine!

Truth shall triumph as the light
Chases far the misty night.
Endless ages own its sway,
Clad in everlasting day.

Now Let Us Rejoice – A Christian Hymn

Now Let Us Rejoice

Now let us rejoice in the day of salvation.
No longer as strangers on earth need we roam.
Good tidings are sounding to us and each nation,
And shortly the hour of redemption will come,
When all that was promised the Saints will be given,
And none will molest them from morn until ev’n,
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,
And Jesus will say to all Israel, “Come home.”We’ll love one another and never dissemble
But cease to do evil and ever be one.
And when the ungodly are fearing and tremble,
We’ll watch for the day when the Savior will come,
When all that was promised the Saints will be given,
And none will molest them from morn until ev’n,
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,
And Jesus will say to all Israel, “Come home.”

In faith we’ll rely on the arm of Jehovah
To guide thru these last days of trouble and gloom,
And after the scourges and harvest are over,
We’ll rise with the just when the Savior doth come.
Then all that was promised the Saints will be given,
And they will be crown’d with the angels of heav’n,
And earth will appear as the Garden of Eden,
And Christ and his people will ever be one.

I Saw a Mighty Angel Fly. Christian Hymn

I Saw a Mighty Angel Fly

I saw a mighty angel fly;
To earth he bent his way,
A message bearing from on high
To cheer the sons of day.
Truth is the message which he bears,
The gospel’s joyful sound,
To calm our doubts, to chase our fears,
And make our joys abound.

He cries, and with a mighty voice;
Ye nations lend an ear,
And isles and continents rejoice:
The great Redeemer’s near!
He cries; let ev’ry ear attend,
And thrones and empires all!
Fear God, and make the Lord your friend,
The King, the Lord of all!

Fear God, who made the water pure,
The heavens, sea, and land.
His judgment will be swift and sure;
The day is nigh at hand.
Then, all ye people, worship God;
Give glory to his name!
To spread these tidings far abroad
The holy angel came.

The Godly Are Victorious Psalms 2:1-12

Psalms 2:1- 12
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. 10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Commentary:
This is a Messianic Psalm speaking to the concept that the heathen or the wicked will fight against the Lord and His gospel but will not be victorious. God has begoten His son, Jesus christ to lead the righteous against the heathen and will be victorious in the end.
