1 Timothy 3:1-5, 13-16
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

We are living in the last days meaning the last days before the second coming of our Redeemer. Verse one carefully and directly warns us “in the last days perilous times shall come”. We are indeed living in perilous times.
Verses 1-5 and 13 detail many of the wicked things that will take place. If we look around we can see it all happening around us. The list is fairly obvious as to what will take place. I only wish to touch on a few things.
Blasphemers: In spite of the Ten Commandments stating thou shalt not take the name of the Lord Thy God in vain I see people walking around wearing a fashionable and ornate cross necklace blaspheming the name of our Lord. It is certainly on TV, the movies and much of the music. Why? How can this be so when there so many places throughout the Bible that addresses the issue? Were we not taught in Sunday School about the Ten Commandments and other parts of the Bible that tell us not to blaspheme?
Disobedient to Parents: Whether it is the popular culture we live in or the fault of parents not teaching respect or both, disobedience to parents is a real problem. Of course parents need to be worthy of respect but children need to honor their father and mother.
Unthankful: We need to be grateful for what we recieve. We should not possess the attitude of entitlement. We should never go to bed without thanking our Father in Heaven for all He has blessed us with. We need to thank those around us for the good they do.
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: This is an interesting sign of the last days in which we live. What has the form of Godliness but denies the power thereof? Many Christian Churches preach a good sermon from the bible and appear godly in their flowery words but don’t recognize the power of the gospel. The gospel has the power to change lives. Don’t be a Sunday Christian. be a 24/7 Christian. Don’t be the kind of Christian judging other Churches as to whether they believe in Christ correctly or not. That certainly is not Godly. We need to be Godly in our works. We need to strive to be like God. how do we do that? Read the scriptures. It has a very detailed outline as to what to do to become God-like or Christian.
We do not need to fear the perilous times in which we live. In verses 14-16 we learn how to deal with these perilous times we call the last days.
We are instructed to continue in the things we have been taught from the scriptures. The holy scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. The scripture are given by the “inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
If we hold to Christian scriptures and learn from them continually and follow there teachings 24/7 then we can handle the last days. We cannot afford to learn the scriptures at Church only. We need to study them everyday. I am thankful you read this blog but you should also open the scriptures and do more than read them, pray about them and apply them to your daily living.
