35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
What is your soul worth? There are many good things we can be involved in that are noble and virtuous.
There’s an interesting interaction between the words “life” and “soul”. In this passge of scripture they seem to be use interchangably. Verse 35 make this statement “whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it”. It could be talking about sacrifcing your life literally for the sake of the Lord or gospel more than lkiely and more often than not it’s talking about loosing oneself in the service of God and the gospel.
When it says “the same shall be saved” is the reward for loosing ones self in selfless service to The Master and His gospel.
The in verse 36 we can wear out our life searching for worldly success and accomplishment and have lost our soul because we put the things of the world above the things of eternity.
