2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
James comments on what I perceived as two types of tempations: The Trial kind and the temptation of sin. In many respects they feel the same and can be equally hard to deal with. I look at verses 2-3 as the type of tempation that is like a trial we have to endure such as a sickness, chronic illness, mouring etc. The type of experience that works patience and tries your faith.
Verses 12-13 seem to be talking about the kind of temptation that worketh unto sin like the tempation to take the Name of the Lord Thy God in vain or to steal, commit sexual sin etc.
They both can try our faith. We may be so deep into the temptation of either type that we wonder if we can come out on top. Can we endure it? Can we over come it?
The answer to these questions is Yes we can deal with the various types of temptations if we seek the Lords help through deep, sincere, heart felt prayer. Remember that the Lord knows first had both the temptations that are trial like and the type that are sin related. He can succor us and provide help.
But rememer to get the help we need to seek for it and accept it. What do you mean accept it? Sometimes the answers to our prayers are right on the money but the answer isn’t what we are looking for. If we want Gods help we have to accept the help he has in store for us.
